How Does Peer to Peer Instant Messaging
Work?
Instant messaging allows you to contact other individuals
(or groups of individuals) on a local area network. When
a message is sent a message opens up a small window on the
users computer users can then reply to any messages.
Instant messaging allows users to send quick notes or reminders
to office personnel or staff in real time. Management can
easily request a file from a secretary or send an announcement
about a meeting time change and have confidence that it
will be received.

How Does Web Based Instant Messaging
Work?
Web based instant messaging allows you to contact other
individuals using the Internet as a means of communication.
Many of the web based Instant messaging software uses proprietary
protocols that is not compatible with other instant messaging
applications. In many cases a "client" is loaded
on local computers, they login to a server and are able
to communicate with other logged in "clients".
Web based instant messaging is most frequently utilized
by social users and because of security concerns and risks
is not used by business users.

How Does Wireless Instant Messaging
Work?
Wireless instant messaging allows you to contact other
individuals (or groups of individuals) using paging networks.
Messages can be sent to pagers, cell phones, LCDs, and other
devices that are able to receive wireless messages. Messages
are transferred to the paging or cellular carrier using
specific defined protocols, then messages are broadcast
via radio waves to the wireless device.
